Pre-primary Education Centre

Certain lucky connections enabled the commencement of an informal primary school at Panga, Jalpaiguri in August 2008. Panga does not have a school nearby. Going school means a kilometre's walk along the highway. Often, the working parents (mostly agricultural workers) cannot afford to accompany their children to school. A school was welcome there.

Well wishers from Panga provided the constructional infrastructure while the study material, along with inputs for a small reading library that we sent from our Majary club at Kolkata.

At present the school is running steadily with about 25 students, aged 2+ to 6, mostly belonging to the Rajvangshi or Bahe community. Local girls are employed as helping hands.

A primary inititative for a self-help centre started in the same premise, teaching the women crystal works and handbag making hoping to make it a source of income for them. We also plan to organise after-school sessions of parental counseling and demonstrative lectures on healthcare of the mother and child.
